Brides and their dudes

Hey, bridesdude, aren't you glad I'm only asking you sign a piece of paper? No bustles for you!

Although, I'm sure we can go get a manicure if you want. [via]

I think this is a capital idea. Years ago, I had fully expected to be the father figure that gives away the bride, her being my old friend Lisa who I have only recently gotten back in contact with. I definitely think it appropriate for a man to stand up for his sister or best friend. This whole story rekindles wedding magic in my heart and mind.

Yes, I know that this post doesn't sound like "me". No need to go there.

You didn't mention if you'd like to do a little pre-signing pampering, though.

Monst is walking me down the aisle. We made a pact and he is going to live forever!

Whatever floats your boat. I'm not big on following rules "just because". That said, I'm not for breaking them "just because", either. Whatever makes sense for the people involved, is what I say. Like JP, I've only ever heard of brothers/sisters standing up for each other, but if your best friend really is of the opposite sex, then go for it.

I do agree that as more and more couples are paying for their own weddings (in full or in part) that they are getting more and more picky about what they will and won't do. And why shouldn't they be? It's their day and their money.

La, what is a best friend anyway?

Posted by: Elizabeth at August 13, 2004 9:45 AM

Fucking good question. I rarely refer to a best friend anymore. It's something I feel is more important to women than to men, though. I don't really know why.

Me neither. I haven't used the term except to refer to Dennis, and that's become more of a joke than anything.

hey, I think that is pretty cool. Loosens things up a bit and makes space for everyone's various realities. Though I have no idea why that guy couldn't hold the roses... jeesh, good thing he's not a florist... what would he have done if if was a purse for god's sake? Pass it to a stranger in the dressing room so he doesn't look silly holding it for her? some men!!! :)
