Sickening destruction of people

I am terribly upset and angered by this photo, but I am with the rest of the commenters on that page in that I am glad they ran the photo, even on the front page. Once again, I feel lucky that this is not a reality I live with. The fact that this is a little girl and not some adult male may have something to do with my increased anger, which bothers me, but that's another discussion.

I'd like to hear comments from anyone living in that part of the world, although I suspect it might be considered just another day at the office. What do the papers usually run?

How can that photo not affect you?

It's almost refreshing (in a twisted way) that there are some things out there that can still shock and disturb us. I do wonder about the value of the picture. What will we in the west do with it, other than abhor and stereotype those who created the subject matter.

On the wider debate, I find it difficult to comment on this way of life. Taking life, however brutal and messy, is fundamentaly wrong in my world. I can't understand the mindset of martyrdom. That somehow death will be celebrated and is a good thing? It is absolutely beyond the (obviously small) sphere of my comprehension. I feel so ignorant and helpless.

Oh, reality.
I have to say that this one of the first pictures of a bombing victim that I've ever seen. So thanks, Jonas.
And I think it's disturbing. I myself never watch the news and even if I do they never show footage like this. I guess it's because Israel's a small country and that girl's family will probably be see the picture.
The one picture from the Beer Sheva bombing that I saw was actually very amusing. It was of one of the funerals, and one of the pallbearers was wearing a T-shirt that said in English "I'm too sexy for my shirt." I'm assuming the guy didn't know English, otherwise he wouldn't wear it, but it was pretty funny.
You see, you just have to find the right photos and your days will be much more cheerful.
I doubt I've been much help, but that's all I can offer.

I didn't click on the link. The little thumbnail photo was enough for me. I let my imagination fill in the blanks. I don't want to become desensitized to images like this. I think that people have become too easily sensitized to the violence (and resulting death, dismemberment and injury). But I don't know if we actually do need to see this, keeping in mind that this is a real person who was loved by others. How will it affect them? There's always a fine balance between educating, informing and reporting, and respecting the privacy and dignity of people who have been victimized.

This is a shame and a horrible waste of life- but I am neither shocked nor do I hold the perpatrators of this in any worse light than I do the US Congress over "The War on Terror", the Board of Directors of the Ford motor company or the Fox network, or any other sanitized face we westerners put on any number of morally wrong, destructive, inhumane things that go in our world.

It's akin to people who are against hunting but buy their meat in sanitized little packages at grocery store. Our Western governments don't partake in exchanges of violence like this anymore. We don't rely on single men or girls to blow things up because we've invested in Smart Bombs and Cluster Bombs and ICBM's.

If more Westerners stopped viewing the Palestinians and their ilk as "barbarians" because of HOW they are waging this war then maybe we could start having a dialogue to finding some way to mediate these conflicts.
