Idiots in the Army
This isn't a "gesture of love". It's stupid.
Oh, now it makes sense. She's his soulmate.
Now that he's lost his finger, how's he going to wear a ring?

This is so romantic I could puke. No, I would hope that someone might understand that I wanted to keep my body parts whole rather than sacrifice them for jewelry, no matter what that jewelry represented. It's not like the ring was his wife. In the end, he could always buy another ring, and look! He has to anyway. It just seems like someone lost track of reality.

I'm not so sure he has to buy another ring. Where would be put it? Certainly not on another finger. Because then it would be just. another. ring!

Has this man ever heard of welding? Jewelers weld rings back together all of the time when sizes change. I guess common sense doesn't fit into this person's thought process. Dumbass. Sentimentality is great but not enough to lose appendages over. He deserves it if he's that bloody stupid. It's this kind of thing that makes me scared for the future of the human race.

I can't stop laughing... is that bad? The guy thought he was being all sentimental and the doctors lost the ring! I wonder if that makes him think that maybe he made the wrong decision...idiot. It makes me wonder if society has become too dependent on material symbols. When he was in Iraq, did he need to look at his ring to feel the love for his wife? Agh...idiot!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't doctors supposed to take the least invasive course of action?
I wonder how long it will take this hopeless romantic to sue them, claiming he was under too much stress to make the decision.

You're all missing the point of the beautiful gesture laid forth by a man of absolute honour.
I imagine the truth was that he was old that it would hurt more if they removed the ring.
God we are all so joyless!!
There is beauty in everyone.

I thought it was idiotic when I first read the story, but I guess war and separation can do weird things to your mind...
