28 dead, 14 injured for promoter's pride

Spectators cheered as entire Cambodian Midget Fighting League squared off against African Lion

As if dwarf-tossing wasn't bad enough (check the guy's defense of the "sport" at the end of the article), some dickwad challenges the credibility of these warriors by suggesting that one lion could beat them all. Offended by this remark, the promoter bets the lives of all 42 of his performers or whatever they were against the lion. This raises a few questions.

  • How the hell do you "beat" a lion? Do you have to kill it? How were they supposed to kill it? How? With what? The promoter said that since the odds were 42-1, they could "out-wit and out-muscle it". Compared to a 600-pound LION, they might as well have been relatively agile children with some fine motor skills. Or dancing meat.
  • Why, oh WHY did they agree to this? Did their contract explicitly say that they had to risk their lives for stupid reasons? I suppose that this would be ruled as an accident on the job. We don't know the circumstances of their participation, so perhaps they were forced somehow.
  • What happened to the lion? They probably decided that it was dangerous (!) and had it killed.
  • What is happening to the promoter? Will he be seen as at least partially responsible for the deaths of the 28 people? Can the survivors even sue? Jail time, maybe?
  • What about the Cambodians? Do they even care, or was it just a really good show, like racing crashes?

Sometimes I wonder if we really deserve the privilege of sentience.

UPDATE: It's a fake article designed to settle an argument between people debating whether or not 42 midgets could defeat one lion.
